- Offered is a thoroughly PQ Choice About Uncirculated Charlotte Mint gold dollar, one that offers rare CAC approval for the issue. Blushes of vivid reddish-apricot iridescence mingle with dominant honey-olive color on attractively original surfaces. Boldly defined apart from minor softness in the centers. The 1853-C is a surprising challenge for both production quality and preservation. Only 11,515 pieces were struck and just 250 to 300 examples are thought to survive for today's collectors. Of this population, merely 20 or so are in Mint State grades, or less than 10%. Nearly as rare are upper end Choice AUs such as this, a coin that will certainly see spirited bidding that results in a strong realized price.
