- Ex. Simpson Collection, as noted on the insert. This is a truly AMAZING GEM C-1. Only a single die pair was used to strike the entire mintage of 1834 half cents, and this one ranks among the best! An awesome pedigree adds to the allure! Blazing mint luster radiates boldly on both sides, highlighting the sensational original RED color that dominates about 75% of the surfaces. The remaining portion is a light brown with hints of steely blue that comes around when viewed in a light. Well struck from Manley State 3.0, Breen State III, which shows double die clashing. The eye appeal is spectacular! Ex Howard Newcomb, 1935; B. Max Mehl, 1935; Col. E.H.R. Green, June 8, 1936; Green Estate to St. Louis Stamp & Coin (B.G. Johnson & Eric Newman), in April 1943; Eric P. Newman; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society to Missouri Cabinet, November/December 1980; Goldberg's sale of the Missouri Cabinet, January 2014, lot 138; Bob R. Simpson Collection, Heritage, January 2022, lot 3003. PCGS 5, NGC 10, CAC 3. When this coin sold as part of the Simpson Collection, its prior pedigree was left off. In the Missouri Cabinet Collection auction, this coin realized $26,450, and had it been noted in the 2022 description it would have likely brought more than it did. This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire one of the greatest 1834 half cents! Good luck! Cert. Number 40276031 PCGS # 1166
