From the Chester Roche Collection. A SUPERB example of this very scarce Civil War era Proof issue, boasting an excellent pedigree: John J. Pittman. A medium, multi-hued iridescent toning with beautiful teal-blue dominating with accents of gold and rose supporting the bold eye appeal. Only a few micro-lines are noted using a very powerful glass, noted only for accuracy. Ex David Akers' sale of the John Pittman Collection, Part 1, lot 412; earlier ex French's February 1961 auction, lot 635. Only 460 Proofs were minted. PCGS 0, NGC 8. The last one sold in a bad market, where in February 2016 one sold for $5,405. There is no Collector's Universe value. Keep in mind that anything finer, will be a five figure coin. Cert. Number 698540-002 PCGS # 3712
